NOV. 3, 2022 – Goodwill of the Heartland works with military veterans and their families throughout the year to make sure they have the goods and services to thrive in local communities. This year the organization wants to do even more in conjunction with Veterans Day, November 11, to honor our veterans’ service and sacrifice.

Throughout the week of Veterans Day – beginning on Sunday, Nov. 6, and continuing through Sunday, Nov. 13 – all active, reserve and veteran military members and their spouses will receive a 20% discount on their entire purchase at all Goodwill of the Heartland stores.

“For several years we’ve provided veterans and their spouses 10% off their entire purchase every Sunday,” said Vice President of Retail Operations Jason Toms. “Increasing the discount for the week of Veterans Day is our way of giving back to those who have given so much to our communities and nation.”

Members of the Goodwill Veterans Services team, headquartered in Davenport, continue their ongoing work with homeless and near-homeless veterans, helping them better reintegrate into civilian life. They have also scheduled their annual Thanksgiving meal for veterans on Thursday, Nov. 17, and plan to deliver meals to local veterans unable to attend the event.

“We’ve made a point of networking with organizations and identifying resources so the veterans we serve can access what they need,” said Lead Veteran Specialist Dustin Schubert. “We also put the full scope of Goodwill services to work for our program participants. Whether a veteran needs professional certification courses, computer access for job searches, interim employment or something else, we can help.”

Veterans are valuable members of the Goodwill team – and the organization would like to employ more of them.

“Goodwill extends beyond our retail stores in so many ways,” said Vice President of Human Resources Kristina Bridges. “Not only do we have careers focused directly on support for local veterans, but we employ a wide variety of administrative, leadership and human service professionals. We know veterans bring distinctive training, skills and experiences that we need at every level of our organization. We encourage them to visit www.workatgoodwill.com to see what we have to offer and apply.”
