Reduce. Reuse. Recycle.

Goodwill's commitment to sustainable practices goes all the way back to our beginning in 1902. As stated by founder Edgar J. Helms, "Goodwill saves the waste in men and things."

Donations made to Goodwill have diverted untold millions of pounds from community landfills. To bring this home, in 2021 Goodwill of the Heartland recycled 9,952,889 pounds of donated goods which would have otherwise ended up as waste.

Thanks to our partnership with Dell®, Goodwill is one of the largest recyclers of computers, parts and accessories in the United States. Last year Goodwill of the Heartland alone recycled 229,971 pounds of computer-related equipment alone.

We want you to know that your donated goods have the power to do good, to make a difference in people's lives, to strengthen communities and create a healthier environment. When you shop Goodwill, you extend the lifecycle of every item you purchase. Savvy shoppers interested in having a positive environmental impact make Goodwill their first stop when considering a purchase. After all, why buy new when gently used will do?
