Event offers a new way to explore Goodwill’s mission and win prizes

APRIL 8, 2025 – Goodwill of the Heartland’s Helms Career Center in Keokuk, Iowa has scheduled an open house on Friday, April 25, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. This family-friendly, interactive event is open to all ages and includes light refreshments, a children’s coloring contest and information treasure hunt. Because there is no formal program, attendees are encouraged to come and go as their schedule allows.

The Information Treasure Hunt encompasses the Keokuk Goodwill Store as well as the Career Center, which share a building at 1226 Main Street. The Career Center entrance is located at the back of the Keokuk Goodwill Store’s sales floor.

“Goodwill is so much more than our amazing stores! Too often local residents are unaware of the valuable programs and services Goodwill offers free of charge,” said Career Services Advisor Melissa Jones. “We offer a variety of job training courses, including professional certification programs. We help people search for jobs, polish their resume, prepare for interviews and so much more. Our hope is that this event will inform our neighbors about what is available.”

The open house event also serves as a formal introduction of Jones, who joined the Goodwill Mission Services team last fall.

“My focus is on fostering growth and development for individuals and the community at large,” she said. “I am committed to making a meaningful impact and am excited about the opportunity to contribute to Goodwill’s mission.”

Attendees can join the treasure hunt, play a game, cheer on their children in the coloring contest, win prizes, and shop for deals. Along the way they will learn new information about Goodwill and better understand how the organization supports job seekers, entrepreneurs and the business community.

The coloring contest is divided into three age groups – up to age 6, ages 7 to 12, and ages 13 to 18. Prizes for the coloring contest will be awarded by raffle and participants need not be present to win.

People of all ages are invited to attend the open house. Mark your calendar and join the fun.
