Partnering with local organizations to help our neighbors stay warm, one new pair of socks at a time
As cooler weather arrives, many of us pull on a warm pair of socks without thinking twice. However, for many people in our community, something as simple as clean socks is not always available. That is why Goodwill is proud to join SOCKtober, a month-long effort to collect new socks for those who need them most.
Why Socks Matter
Socks are one of the most requested items at shelters and service agencies, but they are also among the least-donated. Unlike other clothing items, socks cannot be accepted if they are used. This makes new socks an especially important and practical donation that can bring comfort, dignity, and warmth to someone’s daily life.
How You Can Help
① Purchase new socks - You can buy them at your local Goodwill or the retailer of your choice.
② Drop them off - Bring your donation to participating Goodwill Stores in Burlington, Fairfield, Iowa City, Keokuk, Mount Pleasant, Muscatine or Washington and look for the specially marked donation container.
③ Make an impact - Your generosity helps provide comfort and support to neighbors who need it most.
Small Gift, Big Difference
It may seem like a small item, but a new pair of socks can go a long way. For children heading to school, adults commuting to work or individuals experiencing homelessness, socks provide warmth, protection and a sense of care from their community.
Join Us This SOCKtober
We invite you to be part of this effort by purchasing and donating new socks at one of our collection sites. Together, we can take an often-overlooked item and turn it into an opportunity for kindness, connection and change.
Let's make this October a little warmer and a lot brighter for those in need.
