August 31st, 2020 – Goodwill of the Heartland will reopen its Helms Career Center (HCC) location in Keokuk, Iowa on Tuesday, September 8th. The center closed in March due to COVID-19 health concerns.

Helms Career Centers are located inside of the Goodwill stores in the communities they serve. In Keokuk, the store and HCC are located at 1226 Main Street.

Goodwill career centers offer visitors assistance with career exploration; accessing community resources; computer and digital skill development; using online tools; interviewing; and completing resumes, cover letters and job applications. The centers also coordinate job fair events to connect area employers with job seekers. No appointment is necessary and the services are free and open to the public.

For current hours of operation, please visit helmscareercenter.org New safety procedures will be in place at each location including extra sanitation and capacity restrictions. Face masks will also be required.

The career centers and other mission services offered by Goodwill of the Heartland are supported by community donations and proceeds from its Goodwill stores. The Helms Career Centers are named in honor of the national Goodwill founder and Iowa native Edgar J. Helms. Dr. Charles Helms, grandson of Edgar J. Helms, lives in Iowa City and serves on the Goodwill of the Heartland Board of Directors.
