September 14th, 2020 – Goodwill of the Heartland will open a new Helms Career Center (HCC) location in Clinton, IA on Thursday, October 1st. The center opening was originally scheduled for earlier this year, but was postponed due to COVID-19 health concerns.
The Clinton HCC is the fourth of its kind for Goodwill of the Heartland. Helms Career Centers are located inside of the Goodwill stores in the communities they serve. In Clinton, the store and HCC are located at 1015 13th Avenue N. Goodwill also has career centers in its Moline, IL and Muscatine and Keokuk, IA stores.
Goodwill career centers offer visitors assistance with career exploration; accessing community resources; computer and digital skill development; using online tools; interviewing; and completing resumes, cover letters and job applications. The centers also coordinate job fair events to connect area employers with job seekers. No appointment is necessary and the services are free and open to the public.

The career centers and other mission services offered by Goodwill of the Heartland are supported by community donations and proceeds from its Goodwill stores. The Helms Career Centers are named in honor of the national Goodwill founder and Iowa native Edgar J. Helms. Dr. Charles Helms, grandson of Edgar J. Helms, lives in Iowa City and serves on the Goodwill of the Heartland Board of Directors.
