October 4th, 2019 — Goodwill of the Heartland will host an open house and ribbon-cutting event at its newly expanded Clinton store and service site on Friday, October 18th. The address is 1015 13th Avenue North. The Clinton Chamber of Commerce will be on hand for a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10:30 am.

The expansion celebration will offer a full day of great deals, giveaways, prize drawings and other promotions to engage customers in a fun shopping experience. Goodwill Store Manager Ashley Whalen is excited about the additional 700 feet of retail space. She said that the added space will offer more room for books, records, DVDs and other media and will have a coffee house feel.

Goodwill will also use this opportunity to showcase new programming space adjacent to the store. This space will be used for Goodwill’s day habilitation program and for a range of employment services providing assistance to both the general public and to specific populations of people facing employment challenges. A new training room will also double as a community room and will be available for public use. Those interested in using the room should contact the store manager to check availability and make reservations.

Mindy Kayser, Goodwill’s Vice President of Marketing, shared that the nonprofit organization is able to expand its presence and impact in Clinton because of the support and generosity of the local community. She said, “Goodwill relies on donated goods and retail sales to support its mission of helping people move toward greater independence.”

She added, “When people donate and when they shop our stores, they create access to jobs and employment training, as well as other opportunities for people with disabilities and other barriers to independence. They are also supporting the environment by giving new life to old things and diverting useable goods from area landfills.”

Goodwill of the Heartland is headquartered in Iowa City, Iowa and employs more than 600 people throughout its 19-county service area. This service area includes 17 retail store locations.
