October 17th, 2018 – Dancing zombies are coming to area Goodwill stores! A group of women called the Monsters of Mayhem will dress in zombie costumes and dance to two classic Halloween songs, Thriller and Monster Mash, at Goodwill stores in Bettendorf and Davenport, Iowa and Rock Island and Moline, Illinois on Saturday, October 27th.
The performance schedule is as follows:
10:30 am – Bettendorf Goodwill Store, 2333 Cumberland Square Drive
11:15 am – Davenport Goodwill Store, 5360 Villa Drive
1:30 pm – Moline Goodwill Store, 4805 22nd Avenue
3:00 pm – Rock Island Goodwill Store, 4664 44th Street
Their dance choreography is inspired by Michael Jackson’s iconic song and music video, Thriller. October 27th has been deemed “Thrill the World Day” this year by enthusiasts of the song and dance. On the 27th of October, the Monsters of Mayhem will be joined by Thriller fans across the world as they perform the very same dance.
Michelle Vetter and her fellow co-instructor, Cheryl Nielsen, started the Monsters of Mayhem group and began performing Thriller dances together five years ago. Vetter said, “We are a group of women that love Halloween and what better way to celebrate than being a zombie and learning Thriller.”
The group will perform the dance at a number of venues throughout the day on October 27th and will also be performing at Fright Night in Rock Island on October 25th. Goodwill of the Heartland is the presenting sponsor of Fright Night 2018.
Mindy Kayser, Vice President of Marketing for Goodwill of the Heartland, said, “We appreciate the opportunity to host the Monsters of Mayhem. Their performances help to create awareness of our stores as a Halloween costume shopping destination. Goodwill really depends on strong Halloween sales to support our mission, which is to advance the wellbeing of those who experience barriers to independence. The weeks leading up to Halloween mark the largest seasonal sales opportunity of the year for our nonprofit organization. The Halloween shopping season is essentially our biggest annual fundraiser.”
