Year End Contributions Help Donors and Goodwill®

December 28, 2018 – As the New Year’s holiday approaches, Goodwill reminds supporters that there is still plenty of time to make 2018 tax-deductible year-end contributions of donated goods or financial gifts to the organization.  Keep your local Goodwill store in mind when de-cluttering after the holidays.  Goodwill will gladly accept those old toys the kids have now lost interest in, unwanted holiday décor or perhaps that gift that just wasn’t quite right.

Goodwill is also looking for donations of clothing, shoes, furniture, computers and related technology and other household goods.  For a complete list of items that Goodwill accepts, please visit www.goodwillheartland.org  Donated goods can be dropped off at any Goodwill retail store during normal hours of operation.  Store hours can also be found online by location.

Goodwill stores will close early on New Year’s Eve.  Hours of operation will be 9 am to 6 pm on New Year’s Eve.  All stores will be closed on New Year’s Day.  Donations can be made anytime at one of Goodwill’s convenient donation bins.  Bins can be found in the Cedar Rapids and Iowa City market areas.  Those locations are also listed online.

“We really appreciate our donors and the year-end support that we receive,” said Mindy Kayser, Vice President of Marketing for Goodwill of the Heartland.  “A good finish to 2018 means that we can sustain our stores in the slower donation months of January and February.”  Kayser encourages donors to beat the New Year’s Eve rush though if possible.  She shared that the donation lines can get long on December 31st.

Goodwill of the Heartland relies on donated goods and retail sales to support its larger mission of helping people move toward greater independence.  Kayser said, “When people donate and when they shop our stores, they create jobs and other opportunities for people with disabilities and other barriers to independence.  They also give new life to old things and divert useable goods from area landfills.”

For those interested in making a year-end financial gift, they can do so online at www.goodwillheartland.org or by mailing a check to the main office:  Goodwill of the Heartland, 1410 S. First Avenue, Iowa City, IA 52240.
