Marion, Iowa — April 27, 2016 — Goodwill of the Heartland will host a grand opening for its newly constructed Marion store on Friday, May 6th. The 15,000 square–foot store is located on 7th Avenue in Marion (across from Kum & Go) and is adjacent to the former store site.
The Marion Chamber of Commerce will be on hand for a ribbon cutting at 8:45 am, just before the doors open to the public. The new store celebration will offer a full day of great deals, free popcorn, give-a-ways, prize drawings and other promotions to engage customers in a fun shopping experience.
Goodwill is leasing this newly constructed retail space from Hills Banks & Trust Company. The bank has plans to open a new branch location next door. Goodwill’s Vice President of Retail Jason Toms said, “Hills Bank has been wonderful to work with and very accommodating to our needs. We are grateful for their partnership and support in making this new store happen.”
Once such accommodation is the training room included in this store design. Goodwill will use this room to hold classes for its new Retail Certificate Training Program. The program is designed to prepare people for success in jobs in the retail field. It is open to the public and will launch this summer in Linn County. Goodwill staff will be onsite at the grand opening to provide more information and to sign-up those interested in participating.
The Marion Goodwill store, including the donation drive-up, will be open seven days a week: Monday through Friday, 9 am to 9 pm; Saturday, 9 am to 6 pm; and Sunday, 12 pm to 5 pm. As a local non-profit, Goodwill provides an outlet for people to support a charitable cause. Goodwill of the Heartland relies on donated goods and retail sales to support its larger mission of helping people move toward greater independence.
“When people donate and when they shop our stores, they create jobs and other opportunities for people with disabilities and other barriers to independence. They also give new life to old things and divert useable goods from area landfills,” said Mindy Kayser, Vice President of Marketing for Goodwill of the Heartland.
Kayser added, “We are very excited about this new store opportunity. This is a brand new building right in the footprint of our old store site along a busy thoroughfare in Marion. The location offers easy access and convenience for both shoppers and donors. Our customers will enjoy the large, bright sales floor and other amenities that this new store brings along with great selection and value.”
Goodwill of the Heartland is headquartered in Iowa City, Iowa and employs more than 620 people throughout its 19-county service area. This service area includes 17 retail store locations. There are four stores operating in Linn County, three in Cedar Rapids and this one in Marion.
