Celebrate Valentine’s Day – Take Goodwill’s Date Night Challenge

January 25, 2019 — Looking for a new date night idea this Valentine’s Day season?  You can support Goodwill of the Heartland and its mission by taking the Goodwill Date Night Challenge this February.  Also enter the organization’s Date Night Challenge contest on Facebook and you could win a $100 Visa gift card.

Here’s how it works:  Grab your significant other, or even a friend, and get to your local Goodwill store.  Make the experience even more fun by inviting other couples to join you.  Set a budget, maybe $10 or $20, and challenge everyone to spend no more than that amount choosing an outfit for their partner.  The goofier the better!

You must then wear your Goodwill finds out in public, i.e. to dinner, the movies, bowling, at a sporting event, etc.  Document your Goodwill shopping trip and date night with pictures and/or video.  Share your pictures and/or video to the Goodwill of the Heartland Facebook page between February 1st and February 18th for a shot at the $100 prize.

Mindy Kayser, Vice President of Marketing for Goodwill of the Heartland, said, “We hope this Date Night Challenge promotion will help drive store traffic and sales at a time of the year when we really need it.  Our stores are an important source of support for our mission year-round.  Sales are typically slower in February as compared to other months.”

Kayser shared that variations of the Goodwill date night concept originating from other parts of the country have gone viral on social media over the past few years and have made national headlines.  Stories have appeared on the Today show and ABC News.  A Florida couple is credited with creating the idea.  Find their story here:  http://www.goodwill.org/blog/news-updates/goodwilldate-begins-to-go-viral/

Kayser added, “Couples are always looking for new date night ideas, especially around Valentine’s Day.  We think the Goodwill Date Night Challenge is a really fun way to engage with our loyal customers and to hopefully attract some new shoppers to our stores too.  And here’s the icing on the cake – when people support Goodwill, they’re also making a difference in their local community by creating jobs and other opportunities for people with barriers to independence.”
