Reduce. Reuse. Recycle. Practice Sustainability.

Goodwill's commitment to sustainability goes all the way back to our beginning in 1902. As stated by founder Edgar J. Helms, "Goodwill saves the waste in men and things."

Donations made to Goodwill have diverted untold millions of pounds from community landfills. To bring this home, in 2022 Goodwill of the Heartland recycled 12,874,333 pounds of donated goods which would have otherwise ended up as waste.

Thanks to our partnership with Dell®, Goodwill is one of the largest recyclers of computers, parts and accessories in the United States. Last year Goodwill of the Heartland recycled 289,276 pounds of computer-related equipment.

All Goodwill of the Heartland donation sites accept working and non-working computers and peripherals. Our techs evaluate each item to determine what can be reformatted and resold in support of our mission and what has exhausted its usefulness. Items not suitable for resell are responsibly recycled.

Your donations have the power to do good, to make a difference in people's lives, to strengthen communities and create a healthier environment. When you shop Goodwill, you extend the lifecycle of every item you purchase. Savvy shoppers interested in having a positive environmental impact make Goodwill their first stop when considering a purchase. After all, why buy new when gently used will do?

Today and every day sustainability matters.
