New space in NorthPark Mall includes a Helms Career Center

On January 26, Goodwill of the Heartland hosted a grand opening celebration at its new mission services location in NorthPark Mall.

The new space includes all programs and services from our previous location on 35th Street as well as a new Helms Career Center. Moving to a location more accessible by public transit has been a goal for several years, said Vice President of Mission Services Carmen Heck.

“Our new Career and Support Services at NorthPark Mall is not only more accessible for existing participants who rely on city busing but provides an opportunity for engagement with members of the community who may not be aware of all we offer,” Heck said. “A store front location increases visibility of the great services we provide, which include digital skills training, career planning, job placement and industry-based credentials.”

Goodwill Day Habilitation participants also experience expanded community access.

“A key goal of Day Habilitation is to increase community and social integration,” said Program Director Shannon Jamison. “Being part of NorthPark Mall provides added opportunities for engagement and offers better access to public transit for a variety of community experiences and activities."

The new space is home to our Veterans Services program. Homeless or near-homeless military veterans are encouraged to reach out. Like all Goodwill programs, Veterans Services meets people where they are, listens to their goals and helps chart a path forward.

All of Goodwill's Helms Career Centers are free and open to the public. They are designed to assist job seekers and employers. We connect businesses with qualified applicants. A variety of resources and skill development opportunities are available for job seekers. Career navigators help with technology and internet access, computer skills training, job searches and business connections.
