Serving Those in Need
The purpose of Goodwill is to advance the social and economic
well-being of people who experience barriers to independence. Along
with that important mission, Goodwill of the Heartland believes
in giving back to the community.
As part of its corporate philosophy, Goodwill Industries of the
Heartland returns a portion of its resources to organizations and
individuals in the communities it serves. One way that Goodwill
accomplishes that goal is by providing clothing vouchers that allow
individuals to shop in a Goodwill Store at no cost.
While Goodwill is not an emergency relief agency, Goodwill gives
thousands of dollars of vouchers away for goods to help those in
need. Voucher holders then can shop in any of our 12 Goodwill retail
stores and acquire the clothing and shoes they need—free
of charge—to bridge them over a rough spot.
In 2006 Goodwill of the Heartland gave away clothing and shoes
valued at $64,267.39. Goodwill depends on its corporate partners—the
emergency pantries, agencies, and relief projects—to administer
the distribution of those vouchers.
