jessica_poock_150x115.jpgJessica Poock makes better decisions

Jessica had to overcome some barriers in this past year resulting from personal decisions she made at her community job.  As she again works her way toward the same level of independence she had in the past, Jessica has trained in both the Contracts area at the Cedar Rapids Center and, since May of 2010, at the Goodwill East Store in Cedar Rapids.

Jessica was removed from her community job at the food service department at Mt. Mercy University because of safety and behavioral issues that impeded her success as their employee. Since she left her job at Mt. Mercy, Jessica has made positive changes in her work performance, and she strives to make herself a better person by making wiser choices and improving her work consistency.

Both at Goodwill’s Cedar Rapids Center and our store, Jessica focused on her work habits, personal development issues and understanding workplace employment expectations and standards. Working through these behaviors has helped Jessica gain a better understanding of what she must do return to her former job at Mt. Mercy, or work with any other employer in the community.

Jessica has made significant progress towards returning to her previous position at Mt. Mercy University. She is now working as a substitute with the Mt. Mercy food service crew. Every day, she displays that she has learned from her past decisions and now makes smart choices regarding her work performance.

This year, Jessica earned the Goodwill Achievement Award for taking the steps needed in becoming a valued employee.
