Harmon Harris finds employment after many challenges
After struggling with substance abuse, Harmon Harris was referred to Goodwill through the Drug Court program which assists offenders in seeking employment so they can get their lives back on track.
Since coming to Goodwill, Harmon has diligently worked to find ways to improve himself. He has been positive, punctual and willing to work within the program.
One of Harmon’s early struggles was in finding places that would even let him apply to work there. Though there were challenges, Harmon stuck with it and worked through the program to find a job.
Flash forward. Harmon now has been employed successfully for several months at Taco Bell in downtown Cedar Rapids. Harmon has been identified by his store manager as one who can be an excellent role model for customer service. In fact customers took the time to submit service cards, recognizing the good service that Harmon offers. In finding stable employment, Harmon is on the path to regain a lot of self confidence in his ability to be independent.
Another of Harmon’s big challenges was related to his physical health. Along with diabetes, Harmon has back and leg problems. Now with income from his job at Taco Bell, Harmon has been able to join the YMCA where he can work on his leg and back problems. He also is working on getting his diabetes under control.
Today, Harmon is on track to graduate from the Drug Court program in the next few months. If you were to ask, Harmon would tell you that the Goodwill had faith in him when others did not, and if not for the help provided by Goodwill, Harmon’s life would not be where it is at today. Those are powerful words.
