Burlington Goodwill Store to Open Sept. 30
Iowa City, IOWA — September 19, 2011— On Friday, September 30, the Burlington Goodwill® store will open its doors to shoppers at 9 a.m. following a ribbon cutting by the Burlington Chamber of Commerce.
The new store at 165 West Burlington Avenue features nearly 10,000 square feet of one-of-a-kind quality goods, a drive-through donation space and offices that will be used in the near future to provide services to clients.
More than 300 individuals applied for 15 production clerk and assistant manager positions at the store. “The store currently is fully staffed,” said Amy Rasmussen, Store Manager, who was promoted within Goodwill to serve as the manager at the new location.
“The staff has stocked the store with quality, unique merchandise in preparation for the grand opening,” said Shawn Brewer, Regional Manager for Goodwill of the Heartland. In addition, the new clerks are spending time at neighboring Goodwill Stores to prepare for opening day, he said.
High-quality local donations will allow the store to constantly change merchandise, providing a fresh look every time a shopper comes in. Goodwill will begin accepting donations at the store on Monday, September 26, four days before opening the store to shoppers. Donation hours will be 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. until the store fully opens on September 30. Merchandise has been delivered to the store from areas throughout the Goodwill of the Heartland territory.
“It is incredibly rewarding to bring Goodwill to Burlington,” Brewer said. “We have hired local residents for new full-time jobs with full benefits and will offer our customers the opportunity to shop in town and to donate goods they no longer need to support our community. As locals learn more about Goodwill, they will see how their donations make Goodwill hum,” he said.
Proceeds from the sale of goods from the store support Goodwill’s mission to help people overcome barriers to independence.
The store will be open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. As a convenience for donors, the store offers a donation drive through. Donation hours match the store hours.
