What can I donate?
Goodwill Reboot and all Goodwill Locations accept almost any computer related item. We’ll take your unwanted and even broken computers, printers, monitors, and anything you can plug or put into a computer. Sorry, we cannot accept empty inkjet cartridges or CRT monitors with cracks or glass breaks.
What about my hard drive?
Worried about information on your hard drive? No sweat. Our technicians pass background checks before they begin working on donated items, and we clean all data left on the hard drive to Department of Defense standards on any re-sold unit. Hard drives are destroyed on recycled items. However, we must offer this disclaimer: Dell and Goodwill Industries do not accept liability for lost or confidential data or software. You are responsible for backing up any valuable information and erasing sensitive data from the hard drive before dropping it off. If you want to completely erase the hard drive, you can find a number of free services available online.
What will happen to my donation?
For items unable to be re-sold, repaired or sold for parts, our partnership with Dell’s Reconnect program allows us to work with zero-landfill re-Source Partners to recycle the material.
For some out-of-date or broken items, we can refurbish them to be re-sold. For working items, we wipe hard drives to Department of Defense standards and put them on the shelf at Goodwill Reboot.
Why do I donate?
It’s a win-win. Goodwill uses the profits from your donations to fund job training and rehabilitation services to advance the social and economic well-being of people who experience barriers to independence. And you’re helping the environment – in 2009, Goodwill Reboot kept nearly 1.2 million pounds of electronic waste out of area landfills.
